CSSA caseload for May 2022

     The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in May showed a drop of 1 762 cases, representing a decrease of 0.8 per cent compared with that of April, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (June 17).
 
     The total CSSA caseload at the end of May stood at 213 542 (see attached table), with a total of 298 976 recipients.
 
     Analysed by case nature, old age cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 1.3 per cent to 120 795 cases. Low-earnings cases decreased by 1.0 per cent to 2 101 cases. Single parent cases were down by 0.2 per cent to 23 510 cases. Both ill-health cases and permanent disability cases slightly decreased by 0.1 per cent to 26 897 cases and 17 415 cases respectively.
 
     Unemployment cases slightly decreased by 0.1 per cent on a month-to-month basis to 18 778 cases. The figure represented an increase of about 49.2 per cent in comparison with that of January 2020 when Hong Kong just started to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The average number of applications for unemployment cases in March to May 2022 was 552 per month, representing an increase of 3.8 per cent from that in February to April 2022.
