Supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York (HKETONY), the Boston Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival returned to the Riverbend Park on June 12 (Boston time), which saw more than 1 000 racers from 48 teams competing on the Charles River.

The 43rd Boston Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival is part of the celebration events for the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Director of HKETONY, Ms Candy Nip, noted that since its inaugural edition in 1979, the Boston Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival has inspired multiple cities in the United States to host their own version. The Festival has become a flagship event in promoting Hong Kong’s culture and traditions in New England.

On shore, HKETONY staged a mini-exhibition featuring works of Hong Kong illustrator Stella So to showcase the intangible cultural heritage of Hong Kong, from celebrated festivals to unique traditions.  In addition, guests also enjoyed a wide range of cultural performances and Asian delicacies along the river bank.

The Festival attracted more than 30 000 revelers in the region.
