LD to present TV programme in celebration of HKSAR 25th anniversary

     To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People's Republic of China, the Labour Department has produced a special TV programme, "Tripartite Collaboration for a Brighter Future", to showcase the commitment of the Government, employees and employers in fostering harmonious labour relations and improving employees' rights and benefits through tripartite collaboration since the establishment of the HKSAR. Some examples of the measures taken are the implementation of the Statutory Minimum Wage, introduction and extension of statutory paternity leave, extension of statutory maternity leave, the increase of statutory holidays, improvements to the coverage of the Protection of Wages on Insolvency Fund, abolition of the use of the accrued benefits of employers' mandatory contributions under the Mandatory Provident Fund System to offset severance payment and long service payment, and promotion of occupational safety and health.

     The special TV programme introduces the Labour Advisory Board (LAB), which serves as an exemplary model of tripartite collaboration. Incumbent LAB employee and employer members were also invited to share anecdotes and experiences about their discussions on employees' rights and benefits in LAB meetings.

     In addition, the programme features labour issues that are closely related to members of the public through short dramas. Employers and employees share improvement measures on employees' rights and benefits through real stories as well as experiences on how effective communication between employers and employees advances harmonious labour relations and corporate development. The programme reaffirms the Government's commitment to supporting and promoting tripartite collaboration on labour issues.

     The special TV programme "Tripartite Collaboration for a Brighter Future" will be broadcast on Jade 81 of Television Broadcasts Limited on June 11 (Saturday) from 10.30pm to 11pm.

     The LAB is a tripartite consultative body comprising representatives of the Government, employees and employers to advise the Government on labour matters.
