AFCD launches Hong Kong Country Parks Photo cum Video Competition
*****************************************************************
The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) has launched the Hong Kong Country Parks Photo cum Video Competition to encourage members of the public to explore country parks in Hong Kong and raise public awareness on conserving nature in the countryside. This competition is under the exclusive sponsorship of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), and is one of the many initiatives supported by the HKJC's approved donation of $630 million to the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR.

A spokesman for the AFCD said, "The country parks, which preserve the natural landscape and biodiversity in Hong Kong, are valuable assets of society. Forty per cent of Hong Kong's land area has been designated as 24 country parks and 22 special areas for conservation, education and recreation purposes."

With the theme of "The Scenic Beauty of Hong Kong Country Parks", the competition comprises three categories: landscape photography, mobile landscape photography and landscape videography. It aims to raise public awareness on conserving Hong Kong's countryside by encouraging members of the public to showcase the unique landscape of the country parks through photos and videos.

Members of the public can submit their entries, which must have been taken within the country parks and special areas in Hong Kong within the past three years, via the event website from today to July 31. There will be a champion, a first runner-up, a second runner-up and two merit awards for each category. Winning entries will be displayed through an online platform and a roving exhibition.

In addition, the AFCD will hold two online photography workshops on June 18. Members of the public can learn more useful tips for landscape photography and video production. Registration is open from today to June 17. For details of the competition and workshops, please visit the event website: www.countryparks-photocumvideo.hk.
