The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels (HKETO, Brussels) and Create Hong Kong are jointly supporting the participation of Hong Kong films in the 14th CinemAsia Film Festival, being held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from May 10 to 15 (Amsterdam time).

Hong Kong films are enjoying a strong presence at the Festival, with Longman Leung's biographical drama "Anita", depicting the life of iconic Cantopop star Anita Mui, chosen to open the Festival. HKETO, Brussels hosted a networking reception for members of the international film industry in the evening of May 10 before the official opening of the Festival.

Addressing the audience, the Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Union, Mr Eddie Cheung, said Hong Kong films are strong testimony to Hong Kong's unique creative atmosphere, in which Chinese and Western cultures converge, and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government will continue to support the Hong Kong film industry.

Mr Cheung highlighted that with a flourishing arts scene, Hong Kong is rapidly becoming a major arts centre in Asia and a hub for cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world.

"The year 2022 marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR. I hope that you will be able to come to Hong Kong soon and see the latest spectacular developments for yourselves as our city heads into a new era of stability, prosperity and opportunity," he said.

Six other Hong Kong productions are being screened in this year's Festival, namely Man Lim-chung's "Keep Rolling", Cheuk Cheung's "Bamboo Theatre", Chiu Sin-hang's "One Second Champion", Stanley Kwan's "Lan Yu", Ann Hui's "Love After Love" and Chan Kin-long's "Hand Rolled Cigarette", which has been selected to take part in the Competition programme.
