Together with Create Hong Kong and the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels (HKETO, Brussels) supports the screening of Hong Kong films at the 24th Far East Film Festival (FEFF) in Udine, Italy from April 22 to 30 (Udine time).

The FEFF is one of the largest film festivals in Europe, showcasing the latest productions from Asia and receiving significant national and international interest from the film industry, cultural sector and media. At this year's FEFF, international audiences in Italy are being treated to a special programme titled "Making Waves – Navigators of Hong Kong Cinema" (The Making Waves).

The Making Waves programme focuses on new and emerging talents and features 13 Hong Kong films. It also includes a virtual exhibition of the work of four still photographers, each telling a unique story of Hong Kong cinema. The Making Waves, a touring filmprogramme, is part of the celebratory events for the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). After the FEFF, the Making Waves programme will be held in 12 more world cities, before coming home to Hong Kong.

A Hong Kong Film Night was held in Udine, Italy on April 23, with the screening of "Twelve Days", the opening film for the Making Waves touring programme. Deputy Representative of HKETO, Brussels, Mr Henry Tsoi, addressed guests at the networking reception attended by representatives of the international cinema and cultural scene. Mr Tsoi remarked that local and international filmmakers had for many years been inspired by the creativity and artistry of Hong Kong actors and filmmakers, and the HKSAR Government would continue to support the Hong Kong film industry to join international film festivals.

"This year's festival features a number of productions by Hong Kong's emerging film talents, allowing international audience to experience the creativity of a new generation of Hong Kong actors and filmmakers. We are very delighted to have a few Hong kong talents joining the festival in person and showcase their works," Mr Tsoi said.

Mr Tsoi also highlighted that the year of 2022 marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR. He invited  guests from all over the world, including Italy, to come to Hong Kong after the pandemic to join the celebratory events and explore the vibrant arts and cultural scene of the city in person.
