AFCD steps up inspection of dog licences
****************************************
To enhance the awareness of dog keepers on the need to license their dogs, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) today (April 22) announced that the department will conduct regular dog licence inspections at various public places where dogs gather from next Monday (April 25).

"During the inspections, AFCD staff will issue a written request to dog keepers if they find dogs without valid dog licences. These dog keepers will be requested to license their dogs or renew the licence within seven days and present the valid dog licence to staff members at the designated Animal Management Centres (AMCs) under the AFCD. The AFCD will take enforcement action against dog keepers who violate the requirements," said an AFCD spokesman.

Under the Rabies Regulation (Cap. 421A), all dogs aged over five months must be licensed. Dog licences have to be renewed at intervals not exceeding three years. Failing to do so, a dog owner is liable to a maximum fine of $10,000 upon conviction.

The spokesman reminded dog keepers to bring their dogs to veterinary clinics or AMCs under the AFCD for rabies vaccination and licensing every three years.
