The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

     The Judiciary today (April 13) announced the appointment of Ms Cheung Kit-yee as District Judge. The appointment will take effect on April 14, 2022.

     The appointment is made by the Chief Executive on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission.  

     Further judicial appointments will be announced in due course.

     The biographical note of Ms Cheung is as follows:

     Ms Cheung was born in Hong Kong in 1971. She obtained an LL.B. and a P.C.LL. from the City University of Hong Kong in 1994 and 1995 respectively. She was called to the Bar in Hong Kong in 1995. She joined the Department of Justice as Government Counsel in 1997 and was promoted to Senior Government Counsel in 2007. She joined the Judiciary as Permanent Magistrate in 2012.
