******************************************************************************************
The Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan, the Under Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Chui Tak-yi, and the Director of Health, Dr Ronald Lam, welcomed the arrival of a new batch of Mainland epidemic prevention and control experts at the Shenzhen Bay Port today (April 7).

The six-member delegation of epidemic prevention and control experts was led by the Director of the National Institute for Communicable Disease Control and Prevention of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Mr Kan Biao. The delegation will continue the work of five experts who arrived the city earlier to assist Hong Kong in conducting epidemiological investigations more effectively and precisely, and offer guidance on related anti-epidemic work.

"Since mid-February, a number of batches of Mainland experts arrived Hong Kong to have a better grasp of the anti-epidemic work in the city. They have been working closely with local anti-epidemic team, including the Food and Health Bureau, the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority. Having regard to the Mainland's experience in effectively fighting the COVID-19 epidemic as well as to the epidemic development, scientific data and actual circumstances of Hong Kong, the experts offered us constructive advices and recommendations, providing us with strong support in containing the epidemic in Hong Kong," Professor Chan said.

"Despite the fact that the number of cases tested positive has shown a decreasing trend, the base still remains large. We believe that by continuing to leverage the experience of the Mainland experts in fighting the epidemic and work with them in looking into the current strategies and measures of containing the fifth wave of the epidemic, it will help us put an end to local epidemic as early as possible. I am grateful to the experts, including Ms Xiang Nijuan, Mr Kang Min, Ms Chen Chun, Ms Chen Xueqin and Mr Yang Taohui who are staying in Hong Kong, for their valuable advice and guidance on epidemiological investigations and analysis work offered under the leadership of the Head of the National Health Commission's COVID-19 leading task force, Professor Liang Wannian, in the past month or so. I believe that Hong Kong's anti-epidemic team will also work tirelessly with the delegation led by Mr Kan Biao to continue the fight against the epidemic by learning from the experts, with a view to achieving the goals of reducing deaths, serious illnesses and infections, and safeguarding the lives and health of the citizens."

The experts who arrived at Hong Kong today include the Dean of the School of Public Health of Shandong University, Professor Li Shixue; the Dean of the School of General Practice and Continuing Education of the Capital Medical University, Professor Wu Hao; Assistant Researcher of the Office of Public Health Management of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Ms Tang Xiaozhe; Chief Physician of the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Ms Meng Ruilin; and Deputy Chief Physician of the Guangzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Ms Ma Xiaowei.
