CFS follows up on pickled vegetable products alleged of unhygienic processing

     The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, said today (March 17) that the CFS is proactively following up on an incident of alleged unhygienic processing of pickled vegetable products as reported in media. The CFS's initial investigation showed that some of the affected products had been imported to Hong Kong.

     A spokesman for the CFS said, "Upon noticing recent media reports on unhygienic processing of pickled vegetable products, the CFS immediately liaised with relevant Mainland authorities, conducted investigation and contacted local major importers for follow-up. The abovementioned products have been imported to Hong Kong. The relevant vendors have also stopped sale and removed from shelves the products concerned. The CFS has also taken samples for further testing."

     For prudence's sake, the spokesman urged the public not to consume the products concerned. The trade should also stop using or selling the affected products immediately if in possession.

     The CFS will continue to follow up on the incident and take appropriate action.
