Private Driving Instructor must display identity plate
******************************************************
With effect from today (March 4), all Private Driving Instructors (PDI) are required to display the identity plate inside the training vehicle in such a way that it is clearly visible to the public when giving driving instruction, the Transport Department (TD) said.

The TD gazetted today the specifications for the size, design, form, and position for display of the PDI identity plate.

The TD said the introduction of the PDI identity plate not only helps to improve the professional image of the PDI and to deter illegal driving training, but also safeguards the interests of both PDIs and learner drivers.

Failure to display the PDI identity plate inside the training vehicle when giving driving instruction as required by the law is an offence and liable to a fine of $2,000.

Starting from last December, the TD has been issuing the identity plates and plate holders to PDIs free of charge. As of February this year, around 900 applications had been processed.

PDIs who have not applied for the identity plate are reminded to call 2804 2600 for the identity plate applications.

For details of the PDI identity plate, please visit the TD's website (www.td.gov.hk).
