Pilot Scheme on Subvention for New Sports invites new round of applications

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) today (March 4) announced that the new round of applications under the Pilot Scheme on Subvention for New Sports (the pilot scheme) is open. The pilot scheme aims to promote and support the development of new sports in Hong Kong, providing more opportunities and choices for members of the public to take part in sports activities.

     The pilot scheme is inviting applications for subvention in 2022-23 from now until April 30, 2022. Each successful applicant will be offered a maximum of $150,000 or 85 per cent of the total eligible expenditure of the individual activity, whichever is lower.

     A sports organisation wishing to apply for the subvention must be a non-profit making organisation with Articles and Association registered as a company limited by guarantee under the Companies Ordinance (Cap 622). The new sport under application must be distinct from those sports / disciplines currently solely governed by National Sports Associations under the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China. They must also be recognised by and affiliated to the Asian Federation/Regional Federation/International Federation, and have successful experience in organising sports development programmes of various levels and types with active participation by the public in the past two years.

     As supplementary information to the applications, the applicant organisations shall provide a comprehensive long-term development and promotion plan. They should also provide relevant information on their competency in organising and arranging programmes. A well-established governance structure with transparent and accountable policies should also be put in place and should be widely recognised by the sports sector.

     Priority will be given to new applicant organisations. As for repeat applicant organisations, the LCSD will take into consideration their past performance and records when vetting their re-applications.
