CSSA caseload for January 2022

     The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in January showed a drop of 491 cases, representing a decrease of 0.2 per cent compared with that of December 2021, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (February 21).
             
     The total CSSA caseload at the end of January stood at 216 442 (see attached table), with a total of 305 358 recipients.
             
     Analysed by case nature, both old age cases and single parent cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 0.4 per cent to 123 667 cases and 23 678 cases respectively. Permanent disability cases were down by 0.1 per cent to 17 499 cases.
             
     Unemployment cases decreased by 0.2 per cent on a month-to-month basis to 18 453 cases. The figure represented an increase of about 46.6 per cent in comparison with that of January 2020 when Hong Kong just started to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The average number of applications for unemployment cases in November 2021 to January 2022 was 479 per month, representing a slight increase of 2.1 per cent from that in October to December 2021.
            
     Ill-health cases increased by 0.3 per cent to 26 980 cases. Low-earnings cases remained steady at 2 216 cases.
