***************************************************************

A Government spokesman announced today (February 18) that the supply of fresh food from the Mainland increased further yesterday (February 17).

According to the latest information, the throughput volume of vegetables from the Mainland for supply to the local market through the wholesale markets of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) and the Vegetable Marketing Organization yesterday (as at midnight) increased over that of the day before, and stood at about 13 010 piculs (equivalent to about 788 000 kilograms), around 90 per cent of the volume of a normal day. The overall wholesale price continued to drop. The supply of chilled poultry and meat imported also increased, and was around 70 per cent of that of a normal day.

The AFCD will update and publish the fresh food supply information daily. Members of the public may visit the AFCD website for updates on daily supplies and wholesale prices of fresh food (www.afcd.gov.hk/english/agriculture/agr_fresh/agr_fresh.html).
