Hospital Authority announces preliminary positive patient cases detected via admission screening or testing

The Hospital Authority today (February 15) announced the following preliminary positive COVID-19 patient cases detected via admission screening or testing:
A 98-year-old female patient in a medical ward of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital tested preliminarily positive during an admission screening yesterday (February 14). The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Eleven patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine.
Two female patients, aged 91 and 92, in a medical and geriatrics ward of Kwong Wah Hospital tested negative during an admission screening on February 12. After the admission, both patients tested preliminarily positive on February 13 and yesterday respectively during regular tests. The patients are being treated under isolation in stable condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Fifteen patients who stayed with the patients concerned in the same ward were identified as close contacts. Three of them were discharged. The hospital has reported to the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) for follow-up. The remaining patients are now being isolated for quarantine. In addition, a 79-year-old male patient was admitted to the medical and geriatrics ward on February 11. He tested preliminarily positive during contact tracing screening yesterday. The patient is being treated under isolation in stable condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing and 19 patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts. Five of them were discharged. The hospital has reported to the CHP for follow-up. The remaining patients are being isolated for quarantine.
An 87-year-old male patient in a medical ward of Queen Elizabeth Hospital tested preliminarily positive yesterday. The patient is being treated under isolation with stable condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Two patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine. Admission to the ward has been suspended.
Two female patients, aged 83 and 95, in a medical ward of United Christian Hospital tested preliminarily positive during admission screening on February 13. The patients are being treated under isolation in stable condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Two patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine.
A 46-year-old male patient in a medicine and geriatrics ward of Princess Margaret Hospital tested preliminarily positive during an admission screening yesterday. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in critical condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. One patient who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle was identified as a close contact and will be isolated for quarantine.
A 28-year-old female patient was admitted to orthopaedics & traumatology ward of Yan Chai Hospital yesterday and was discharged after treatment in the same afternoon. Her preliminary positive test result for the admission screening was available after discharge. The hospital has referred the case to the CHP to follow up. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Seven patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine. In addition, a 79-year-old female patient in a medical ward tested preliminarily positive during an admission screening on February 13. She is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Six patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine.
A 55-year-old male patient in a medical ward of North District Hospital tested preliminarily positive during an admission screening today. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in serious condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Four patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine.
A 77-year-old male patient in a medicine & geriatrics ward of Tuen Mun Hospital tested preliminarily positive during an admission screening yesterday. The patient is being treated under isolation in stable condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Seven patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine. Another two nurses who did not put on face shield while providing nursing care for the preliminary positive case were also identified as close contact and required quarantine. In addition, a 56-year-old female patient admitted to a surgical ward of Tuen Mun Hospital yesterday and was discharged in the same afternoon. She received admission screening and the test result available today was preliminarily positive. The hospital has referred the case to the CHP to follow up. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Six patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine. Another nurse was also identified as a close contact as the patient did not wear mask while receiving care from the nurse.
Thorough cleaning and disinfection operations have been performed in the affected areas by the hospitals. The hospitals will continue to communicate with the CHP on the latest situation.
