Assessor of Inland Revenue Department tests preliminarily positive for COVID-19

     The Inland Revenue Department today (February 13) said that an Assessor who works on the 4th floor of Revenue Tower has tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19.

     The staff member felt unwell on February 11 and underwent testing for COVID-19 on the next day. He tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19 today (February 13). He is responsible for computer work without the need to have contact with the public. He had worn masks and followed relevant disease prevention measures at work. He last worked in the office on February 11.

     The department has completed a thorough cleaning and sterilisation on the 4th floor of Revenue Tower. All staff of the same floor will undergo COVID-19 testing and work from home while waiting for the results. The department will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health to take follow-up action as appropriate.

     The Business Registration Office (BRO) on the 4th floor of Revenue Tower, including the service counters, will be temporarily closed from tomorrow (February 14). Reopening arrangements will be announced later. During the temporary closure of the BRO, no same-day tickets will be distributed. For members of the public who have made prior appointments through the online appointment booking system for the dates on February 14 or after, please refer to the department's announcement later.

     The department urges members of the public to submit documents to the BRO by post or through the BRO Drop-in Boxes on G/F and at Central Enquiry Counter on 1/F of the Revenue Tower, 5 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai, use the BR electronic services at GovHK (www.gov.hk/en/business/registration/businesscompany/index.htm) to handle their BR affairs and make payment of the BR fee and levy by electronic means, such as by PPS, bank Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) or via internet, by post, at post offices or convenience stores.

     During the situation of COVID-19 infection, the department has been strictly implementing disease prevention measures. The department will continue to maintain close liaison with the CHP, actively co-operate with CHP's quarantine arrangements and remind its staff to pay attention to personal hygiene and stay vigilant.
