The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     As at 9am today (February 8), 83 patients who had tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus were discharged from hospital in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 13 315 patients have been discharged.

     ​A total of 1 853 patients who had tested positive are currently hospitalised in the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre, the Hospital Authority (HA) Infectious Disease Centre, the Community Treatment Facility at AsiaWorld-Expo and 15 public hospitals, including two critical patients and two serious patients. The remainder are in stable condition.

     ​"Scientific data and clinical evidence have proven that COVID-19 vaccination is highly effective in preventing severe cases and deaths from COVID-19. In light of the threat posed by mutant virus strains with high transmissibility, we again call on eligible persons, both young and old, to get vaccinated for self-protection. Members of the public who are currently eligible for a third dose should also get the dose as early as possible," an HA spokesperson said.

     ​The spokesperson also reminded the public that parents or guardians can make reservations for children aged 5 to 11 to receive BioNTech vaccination at three Children Community Vaccination Centres (CCVCs) starting from tomorrow (February 9). The vaccination service will commence on February 16. The two CCVCs to be operated by the HA in Hong Kong Children's Hospital and the multi-purpose arena on the first floor of Yuen Chau Kok Sports Centre will come into service on February 16.

     The HA will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.
