Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum reshapes revolution stories of "The Four Great Outlaws" (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
To commemorate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum, the 155th birthday of Dr Sun, and the 110th anniversary of the 1911 Revolution, the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum will present the thematic exhibition "The Four Great Outlaws – Reshaping the Memories of the Revolution through a Photo" from tomorrow (December 10). Through the display of over 50 artefacts and historical pictures, the exhibition will tell the story of the revolutionary activities and different life experiences of Dr Sun, Chan Siu-pak, Yau Lit and Yeung Hok-ling, who were named the "Four Great Outlaws", and illustrate how the examination of different versions of the "Four Great Outlaws" group photo can shed light on the history of modern Chinese revolutions.

During his medical studies in Hong Kong from 1887 to 1892, Dr Sun met frequently with his like-minded friends Mr Chan, Mr Yau and Mr Yeung. They often met to discuss politics and current affairs. As their revolutionary discourses were considered as impudent and insurgent at that time, they were called the "Four Great Outlaws". They were also the key figures during the period of the revolutionary discourse as reflected by Dr Sun.

With the "Four Great Outlaws" as an entry point, the exhibition will present the story about these four key figures of the exploratory period of the revolution starting from sharing friendly discussions in the early years to following dissimilar paths for the revolutionary cause until the end of their lives. Visitors can learn more about the development of modern Chinese revolutions. The exhibition will showcase a variety of valuable exhibits and historical pictures from the Museum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen at Cuiheng, Guangdong province; as well as items from the collections of the Hong Kong Museum of History, the University of Hong Kong Libraries and the Chinese University of Hong Kong Library. Highlighted exhibits include the glass negative of the group photo of the "Four Great Outlaws"; The Sun Wen Doctrines (replica) published in 1919, with the seal of Yang Si Kou Tang (the Four Great Outlaws Hall) impressed on the book cover; and the inscription of Tian Xia Wei Gong (the World is for All) (replica) by Yeung Hok-ling, etc.

The exhibition features a specially designed education corner for visitors of all ages to learn more about the stories of the "Four Great Outlaws" through multimedia interactive games and role-playing. Lectures and workshops will also be held during the exhibition period to introduce the life of the "Four Great Outlaws" from various perspectives.

The exhibition will be held from tomorrow to March 16 next year at the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum (7 Castle Road, Mid-Levels, Central). It is jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and the Zhongshan Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau, and jointly organised by the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum and the Museum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen at Cuiheng. For exhibition details, please visit hk.drsunyatsen.museum/en_US/web/sysm/special_exh_four_great_outlaws.html, or call 2367 6373 for enquiries.

All persons are required to use the "LeaveHomeSafe" mobile application to scan the venue QR code before they are allowed to enter offices and venues under the LCSD, except for exempted persons who are aged below 12 or aged 65 or above and those with disabilities that render use of the app difficult. Exemptions will also be granted to individual persons depending on the actual circumstances. All exempted persons are required to complete a record form to register their personal particulars and the date and time of their visit. As it will take time to verify personal particulars of exempted persons under the arrangement, their waiting time for using public services or entering the relevant venues may be lengthened. The LCSD suggests that members of the public arrive early, and appeals for their understanding. The department also encourages the exempted persons to use the app as far as possible to save time.
