The Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) will tomorrow (December 4) launch the "I&T New Era" promotional programme. The programme consists of 22 three-minute episodes, which introduce the research projects and achievements of the 16 State Key Laboratories (SKLs) and the six Hong Kong Branches of Chinese National Engineering Research Centres (CNERCs). The videos outline how these research projects improve people's daily lives, aiming to enhance the public's understanding of this scientific research.

     The Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Ms Rebecca Pun, said today (December 3), "I am delighted to recommend 'I&T New Era'. The programme introduces the work of various laboratories and engineering research centres in a lively and practical manner, which allows the public to learn more about their research projects. I also hope that the programme will inspire students' interest in science and research."

     The SKL scheme is one of the major national science and technology development schemes managed by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). High-quality research teams and good research equipment are prerequisites for becoming SKLs. Meanwhile, scientific research institutes approved by MOST as Hong Kong Branches of CNERCs need to possess strong research and development capabilities, and have a wealth of experience in commercialising their technological achievements to accelerate the advancement of enterprises' production technologies. At present, there are 16 SKLs and six Hong Kong Branches of CNERCs in Hong Kong.

     "I&T New Era" was jointly produced by the ITC and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), and will be broadcast on RTHK TV 31 at 8.25pm every Saturday starting from tomorrow. Video clips will be uploaded to RTHK's Facebook page and YouTube channel. Members of the public may also view the clips on the ITC's website (www.itc.gov.hk) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/ITC.HK).
