Hong Kong-Nordic co-production "Moving a memory" unveils dreamy and playful choreography (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
Choreographer Wayson Poon and Nordic stage director Jon R Skulberg will collaborate in a refreshing production, "Moving a memory", to explore the poetic and atmospheric imagery first crafted in a Nordic gymnasium, which now unfolds in a Hong Kong dance studio.

In the Nordics, the gymnasium is a symbol of physical fitness and an architectural manifestation of public health. Created for gymnasiums and other physical learning spaces, "Moving a memory" explores with dance, music and installation in a poetic language to unveil the experiences and memories connected with these spaces where our bodies are trained, challenged and disciplined.

With the elements of structure and space in Hong Kong, the production under the New Vision Arts Festival (NVAF) will take place in a dance studio at the Kwai Tsing Theatre, which is expected to create a new impact.

Choreographer Poon is a locally based Hong Kong contemporary dance artist. He integrates Asian philosophies and the essence of "qi" in Taoism into his unique concept of contemporary dance. Extremely delicate in motion, his works induce people to awaken the consciousness of body and mind, and provide the possibility of changing fixed ideas. Poon won the Hong Kong Arts Development Award for Young Artist (Dance) in 2016, and received an Asian Cultural Council Fellowship in 2019.

Stage director Skulberg is a Norwegian artist based in Copenhagen. He studied scenography at the Norwegian Theatre Academy and Institute of Dramaturgy, Aarhus University. In 2016, he founded Convoi Exceptionnel, a production company specialising in the interdisciplinarity and spatial-somatic relationships within theatre, opera, dance and installation. Skulberg has been an associated artist and stage director at Hotel Pro Forma, a Danish performance group, on several opera productions. His works have been performed and exhibited in Oslo, Copenhagen, Brussels, Brisbane, Aarhus, Malmö, Gothenburg, Poznan, Riga, Berlin, Warsaw, Moscow and Prague.

"Moving a memory" is one of the highlights of the NVAF. It will be held at 8pm from November 18 to 21, and at 3pm on November 20 and 21 at the Kwai Tsing Theatre Rehearsal Room.

Tickets priced at $200 are now available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk). For credit card telephone bookings, please call 2111 5999, or use the mobile ticketing app "My URBITX".

A meet-the-artist session will be held after the evening performance on November 18.

Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the NVAF is running from October 23 to November 28, showcasing a range of creative, pioneering and interdisciplinary programmes. For programme enquiries and concessionary schemes, please call 2370 1044 or visit www.nvaf.gov.hk.

All persons will be required to use the "LeaveHomeSafe" mobile application to scan the venue QR code before they are allowed to enter LCSD offices and venues except for exempted persons who are aged below 12 or aged 65 or above and those with disabilities that render use of the app difficult. Exemptions will also be granted to individual persons depending on the actual circumstances. All exempted persons are required to complete a record form to register their personal particulars and the date and time of their visits. As it will take time to verify personal particulars of exempted persons under the new arrangement, their waiting time for using public services or entering the relevant venues may be lengthened. The LCSD suggests members of the public to arrive early and appeals for their understanding. The department also encourages the exempted persons to use the app as far as possible to save time.
