The Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Union of the HKETO, Brussels, Mr Eddie Cheung, visited Groningen and Amsterdam in the Netherlands on October 11 to 12 (Groningen time), where he shared with Dutch students and members of the Hong Kong community in the Netherlands the initiatives in the Chief Executive's Policy Address, as well as the newly published "Report on Hong Kong's Business Environment: A Place with Unique Advantages and Unlimited Opportunities".

On October 11, Mr Cheung addressed around 50 university students at a seminar in Groningen organised by SIB-Groningen, a Dutch international student association which aims to raise students' interest in international relations. The seminar covered Hong Kong's role as an international financial centre and a hub for overseas companies wishing to enter the Mainland and neighbouring markets.

Mr Cheung highlighted Hong Kong's role as the world's largest offshore Renminbi (RMB) business centre, with around 75 per cent of the global offshore RMB payments processed via Hong Kong. He said that with restored stability and proximity to the Mainland, Hong Kong will continue to be the dominant gateway to the Mainland.

In Amsterdam, Mr Cheung addressed around 50 members of the Hong Kong community in the Netherlands at a dinner on October 12, bringing them up to speed on the latest developments in Hong Kong.

Mr Cheung introduced the initiatives outlined in the Chief Executive's Policy Address which sets out a new blueprint for the future of Hong Kong. Mr Cheung highlighted the developments of the two metropolises, i.e. the Harbour Metropolis which include the reclaimed land under the Lantau Tomorrow Vision, and the Northern Metropolis that will be developed as an international innovation and technology hub. He also shared with the attendees other initiatives to make Hong Kong a safe, green, liveable and innovational international city for talents.

Mr Cheung highlighted to both university students and members of the Hong Kong community in the Netherlands the latest policy initiatives to attract talents to Hong Kong, including the doubling of the annual quota of the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme and the expansion of the Talent List as announced in the Chief Executive's Policy Address. He encouraged both groups to look into the talent attraction initiatives launched by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and consider the business and career opportunities in Hong Kong.
