SFH calls on elderly and welfare service users to get vaccinated (with photos)
******************************************************************************
The Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan, attended the Wan Chai District vaccination day organised by St James' Settlement today (October 7). The activity provided one-stop service covering a health talk and COVID-19 vaccination for service users of its subordinate welfare organisations and their caregivers.

"I am delighted to learn that some 120 people, comprising elderly persons, service welfare service users and their family members, took part in today's activity. I would like to express my gratitude to St James' Settlement for organising the health talk and answering questions from participants so that they could learn more about the information and protection of COVID-19 vaccines," Professor Chan said.

An outreach doctor was on-site to administer the Sinovac vaccine to the participants. Those who opted for the BioNTech vaccine were arranged to take designated transport to the Community Vaccination Centre at Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park Sports Centre for vaccination.

Professor Chan said, "As stated in the Policy Address delivered by the Chief Executive yesterday (October 6), public support is vital for the resumption of cross-boundary travel. Persons who are not yet vaccinated should receive vaccination as early as possible to prevent themselves and their families from getting infected, and help create favourable conditions for cross‑boundary travel.

"Currently, less than 20 per cent of elderly people aged 80 or above have been vaccinated. Senior citizens, persons with chronic diseases and other immunocompromised people face a comparatively high risk of deteriorating condition and even death once infected by COVID-19. Generally speaking, except for those with contraindications, the elderly and chronic disease patients should get vaccinated to protect themselves and help Hong Kong build a protective barrier."
