Members-elect of the Election Committee to submit written oaths by October 15
***************************************************************

The Registration and Electoral Office (REO) today (October 4) reminds all members-elect of the Election Committee to sign and submit the written Election Committee Oaths by the statutory deadline of October 15.

Pursuant to section 42A of the Schedule to the Chief Executive Election Ordinance (Cap. 569), the Electoral Registration Officer ("ERO") must not include the name of a member-elect of a term of office in the final register of members of the Election Committee for that term of office unless the ERO has received the Written Election Committee Oath (at Annex 13 of that Schedule) signed by the member-elect under section 42A(2) of that Schedule. The REO has published the interim register of members of the Election Committee, which contains the names of members-elect of the Election Committee, on September 27. The REO has issued letters inviting members-elect to submit the written oaths on the same day. As of October 3, a total of 327 members-elect have submitted their written oaths.

A spokesman for the REO said that all members-elect (including ex-officio members, and members returned by nomination and election respectively) must sign and submit the Written Election Committee Oaths by the statutory deadline of October 15 such that they could be included in the Final Register to be published on October 22 and become a member of the new term of Election Committee.

Members-elect may submit their written oaths through the following means:

  1. make their own arrangement to engage a solicitor who holds a current practising certificate to administer the oath. The original copy of the duly signed written oath should reach the office of the ERO (Address: 13/F, Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre, 1 Trademart Drive, Kowloon Bay, Kowloon) no later than October 15, 2021; or
  2. the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau has set up a special counter at the Central Government Offices (Address: 2 Tim Mei Avenue, Tamar, Hong Kong) to administer oaths for members-elect on the spot and would submit the signed written oaths to the ERO on behalf of the members-elect. Members-elect may call the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau at 3655 4824 during office hours (9am to 6pm. from Monday to Friday, except public holidays) to make reservation.
