Contractors fined for violation of safety legislation

     Ka Wah Decoration Limited and Hung To Air Condition Works Limited were fined $81,000 and $71,000 respectively at Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today (October 4) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Regulations and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on March 15 this year at a shop under renovation in San Po Kong. A worker, who was standing on a ladder platform to carry out levelling work, was suspected to have fallen to the floor and was injured as the ladder platform toppled. He was admitted to hospital and passed away on the following day.
