FEHD combats illegal sale of fish and seafood (with photos)

During the operation, the FEHD arrested two persons-in-charge of the fish vessels and initiated procedure of prosecution for carrying on unlicensed food business in fish vessels and selling of restricted food without permission. The FEHD also seized relevant paraphernalia and disposed of the fish and other fresh shellfish abandoned at site. From January this year, the FEHD has initiated five prosecutions (including three arrests) against illegal sale of fish and seafood at the seaside of the Tuen Mun Typhoon Shelter and the Castle Peak Bay Waterfront Promenade.
An FEHD spokesman said, "The FEHD is very concerned about illegal sale of fish and seafood and will continue to closely monitor the situation and take stringent enforcement actions. Under the Food Business Regulation (Cap. 132X), any person who operates an unlicensed food business or sells restricted foods without permission is liable on conviction to a maximum fine of $50,000 and imprisonment for six months."
"The FEHD will continue to take enforcement actions with relevant departments against the illegal sale of fish and seafood, so as to safeguard food safety and public health," the spokesman stressed.
