***************************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson for Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Fung Yiu King Hospital (FYKH) made the following update today (September 13) regarding the incident of the loss of documents containing patient data:

As announced by FYKH days ago, a doctor of FYKH offered Community Geriatric Assessment service at a home for the elderly on September 10, and left a folder at a public carpark nearby after finishing the consultation. The folder was later picked up by a citizen. The folder was then passed to a security guard of the carpark and returned to the home for the elderly this morning. FYKH immediately arranged to collect the folder and confirmed that all the documents inside were intact. The hospital also contacted the involved security staff of the carpark and learned that the information in the folder had not been read in detail. The risk of leaking patient data is estimated to be low.

The hospital expressed its gratitude to the citizen who assisted in locating the folder. This latest situation has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office, the Police and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data.
