Results of the Hexagonal Adventure - Design Competition for a Viewing Platform on a Headland Overlooking Po Pin Chau and Associated Hiking Facilities, organised by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) in collaboration with the Architectural Services Department (ArchSD), were announced today (September 11) with a prize award ceremony held at the City Gallery, Central. The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing; the Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation, Dr Leung Siu-fai; the Director of Architectural Services, Ms Winnie Ho; and one of the juror members of the competition, founder of the Hong Kong Hiking Meetup, Mr Shum Si-ki, presented the awards.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Wong Kam-sing said that the competition is expected to raise the public awareness of natural landscape conservation and the "Leave No Trace" principles. In this light, the design of the entries is required to be modest, subtle, coherent with the natural environment, and induce visitors' respect for nature.

The competition aims to collect innovative and appropriate design ideas and concepts to setup a new viewing platform on a headland overlooking Po Pin Chau, and associated hiking facilities along the trail, near the East Dam of High Island Reservoir at Sai Kung East Country Park to enhance the safety of visitors and minimise impact on the environment near the headland. Members of the public can enjoy the stunning scenery of the hexagonal volcanic rock columns, which is the iconic landscape of Po Pin Chau, so that visitors' experience at the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark can be enriched.

The competition received over 60 entries from the architectural, engineering, landscape and surveying professions. Champion, runners-up and two commendation entries were selected by the jury panel. The awarded entries harmonise with natural environment at the headland from various angles. These entries contain subtly designed features that enhance visitors’ flow, safety and viewing experience.

Members of the public can view the list of the winners and the entries at the competition webpage (hexadventuredesigncompetition.hk/).
