Contractor and worker fined for violation of safety legislation

     China Overseas Building Construction Limited and a worker were fined $105,000 and $15,000 respectively at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today (September 10) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on December 11, 2019, in a construction site at Tseung Kwan O. A worker who was working on a scaffold at the external wall of a building under construction fell from the scaffold onto the podium of the building. The worker was sent to hospital and passed away on the same day.
