China Overseas Building Construction Limited and Otis Elevator Company (H.K.) Limited were fined $66,000 and $72,000 respectively at Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts today (August 30) for violation of the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Management) Regulation. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
           
     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on October 8, 2019, at a building construction site in Tuen Mun. While a lift worker was carrying out lift installation work in a lift pit, the lift car suddenly descended and trapped him between the lift car and a working platform. The worker sustained severe injuries and passed away on the same day.
