Police investigate the suicide of a police officer

     Police are investigating the death of a 33-year-old police officer in New Territories North Regional Police Headquarters this morning (August 20).

     At around 7.15am, Police found a 33-year-old male Police Constable, who was attached to the Emergency Unit of New Territories North Region, injured inside a washroom in New Territories North Regional Police Headquarters. He had a gunshot wound to his head. He was sent to Prince of Wales Hospital in unconscious state and was later certified dead. A service pistol was found next to the deceased. A suicide note was also found.

     Upon initial investigation, it is believed that he committed suicide with his service revolver.

     Post-mortem examinations will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of death of the deceased.

     Investigation by Regional Crime Unit of New Territories North is underway.

     Police express sorrow and regret over the death of the police officer and extend sympathies to his family. Police will offer assistance to the family members of the deceased.
