Leading Japanese multimedia artist collective Dumb Type to stage film version of "2020" in September
***************************************************************

Japan's avant-garde multimedia artist collective Dumb Type will present a film version of its long-awaited new work "2020" in September.

"2020" is Dumb Type's first new work in 18 years. It was scheduled to be staged at ROHM Theatre Kyoto in 2020 but had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. This special recorded version has been screened to great acclaim.

"2020" was created after repeated observations and explorations about various phenomena that people face in contemporary society. It leads audiences to deeper thoughts about the world.

Formed in 1984, Dumb Type comprises people working in visual arts, dance, video, computer programming, music and other diverse fields. They have maintained an open-ended creative style with no fixed director and a changing roster of members participating in each new production as part of their ongoing exploration of ever-new possibilities in artistic collaboration. Their interdisciplinary efforts continue to transcend existing genres of fine art, theatre and dance. Regardless of genre, the essence of their work addresses socio-political apathy, and today's technological reality on a global scale. Their remarkable performances include "pH", "S/N", "memorandum" and "Voyage".

In parallel with the performances, the group also creates installation works. The exhibition entitled "Dumb Type: Actions + Reflexions" was held at France's Centre Pompidou-Metz in 2018. An updated version of the same exhibition with new works and archive materials was held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo from 2019 to 2020.

"2020" by Dumb Type is one of the film screenings in the "Dance on Screen" Series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be screened at 8pm on September 18 (Saturday) and 4pm on September 19 (Sunday) at the Auditorium of the Kwai Tsing Theatre. Tickets priced at $60 are now available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk).
