************************************************************************************
The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) and the Hong Kong Electrical and Mechanical Trade Promotion Working Group today (July 16) held the "Serving for City, Surfing for Life" Theme Day and a series of seminars at the Electrical and Mechanical (E&M) Expo 2021, introducing to young people the latest career prospects, training and study opportunities in various E&M fields, including air-conditioning, vehicles, fire services, gas, electronics, escalators, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, water supply, power supply, transportation and railways.

The Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services, Mr Eric Pang, said at the event that inasmuch as Hong Kong is developing into a smart city, promoting the popularisation of electric vehicles and striving towards carbon neutrality, there will be an increasing demand for E&M talents who have knowledge in the application of artificial intelligence, image analysis, remote monitoring and diagnosis as well as energy-efficient technology. He encouraged young people to take the opportunity to join and develop their careers in the E&M industry.

The Chairman of Hong Kong Federation of Electrical and Mechanical Contractors, Mr Peter Lam, added that E&M technologies play a vital role in supporting the fields of infrastructure and transportation as well as innovation and technology. He hoped that the Expo would give young people a better understanding of the future developments of the E&M trade.

The E&M Expo 2021 will run at Hall 5G of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the venue of the Education & Careers Expo, until July 18. The opening hours are from 10.30am to 7pm daily (except for July 18 when the Expo will close at 6pm). Admission is free. Visit the Facebook page (www.facebook.com/emengineering/) for details.

The Hong Kong Electrical and Mechanical Trade Promotion Working Group, the members of which include EMSD, was established in 2012 and has been committed to promoting the sustainable development of the E&M industry.
