Contractors fined for violation of safety legislation

     Wide Hope Engineering Limited and Chung Tin Building Materials and Engineering Limited were each fined $123,000 at Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (July 12) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on December 15, 2020, in a house under renovation at the Peak, Hong Kong. A worker, while removing the protective layer of a glass fence in the garden of the house, fell from height onto the ground. The worker suffered a serious head injury and passed away the following day.
