Contractors fined for violation of safety legislation

Luen Yick Builders Limited, Wai Yiu Professional Engineering Limited, the proprietor of a contractor and another contractor were fined $104,000, $94,000, $94,000 and $100,000 respectively, at Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (July 9) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on December 10, 2020, at a five-storey building under renovation in Aberdeen. A worker, while collecting bags of concrete debris on the roof of the building, fell to a 1/F canopy. The worker sustained serious injuries and passed away on the same day.
