Public hospitals daily update on COVID-19 cases and Kwong Wah Hospital patient passes away

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     As at 9am today (July 5), one COVID-19 confirmed patient (case number: 11887) was discharged from hospital in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 11 638 patients with confirmed or probable infection have been discharged.

     At present, there are 607 negative pressure rooms in public hospitals with 1 089 negative pressure beds activated. A total of 59 confirmed patients are currently hospitalised in 13 public hospitals and the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre, among which one patient (case number: 9907) is in serious condition and the remaining 58 patients are in stable condition.

     In addition, a 78-year-old male patient (case number: 6794) with chronic illness was admitted to Kwong Wah Hospital for treatment on December 4, 2020, after testing positive for COVID-19. After treatment, the patient tested negative for COVID-19 and was released from an isolation order by the Department of Health on December 23, 2020. His condition continued to deteriorate and he eventually succumbed at 8.35pm yesterday (July 4). Including this patient, 204 COVID-19 confirmed patients have passed away in public hospitals so far.

     The Hospital Authority will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.
