SFH appeals to ethnic minority residents to get vaccinated (with photos)
************************************************************************
The Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan, today (June 20) visited the Community Vaccination Centre at the Education Bureau Kowloon Tong Education Services Centre to view the administration of a COVID-19 vaccine for ethnic minority residents.

Professor Chan said, "I am delighted to learn that over 60 ethnic minority residents joined this vaccination activity arranged by Lok Sin Tong Lee Yin Yee United Centre - Support Service Centre for Ethnic Minorities. They will not only protect themselves and their family members by getting vaccinated against COVID-19, but also contribute to the epidemic prevention and control work in Hong Kong. I especially thank Lok Sin Tong for arranging this activity to assist the ethnic minority community to get vaccinated, so that they can fulfil their civic responsibility and help build an immune barrier for the community.

"The Government has followed the principles of openness, transparency, accuracy and timeliness and adopted a science-based approach to provide members of the public with the latest information on COVID-19 vaccines through different channels and made public the views of experts, so as to build up social momentum and improve citizens' willingness to get vaccinated. To enable ethnic minorities to receive the latest news and information on COVID-19 vaccines, the designated website (www.covidvaccine.gov.hk/en/news) launched by the Government is available in different languages to introduce the vaccination programme, the vaccines' protection, essential facts, and more.

"The Government has so far procured and authorised a total of 15 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines for emergency use. The procured quantity is sufficient for vaccination of the entire population of Hong Kong. As the global pandemic situation is still raging, especially with the threat posed by mutant strains, it is imperative for members of the public to get vaccinated as soon as possible to protect their own health and that of their families and others."

Professor Chan met with presidents / representatives of various charities in early May to discuss the latest progress of the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme and exchange views. She said she was pleased to know that Lok Sin Tong responded positively. She also called on the charities to join the Government continuously to promote the "Early Vaccination for All" campaign and encourage their staff members and service users of subsidiaries to get vaccinated in order to build a barrier for protection in Hong Kong and thereby restore normality to society sooner rather than later.
