CSSA caseload for May 2021

     The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in May showed a drop of 821 cases, representing a decrease of 0.4 per cent compared with that of April, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (June 17).
     
     The total CSSA caseload at the end of May stood at 222 333 (see attached table), with a total of 318 540 recipients.
     
     Analysed by case nature, low-earnings cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 1.2 per cent to 2 369 cases. Old age cases were down by 0.6 per cent to 127 424 cases. Permanent disability cases slightly decreased by 0.1 per cent to 17 503 cases.

     Unemployment cases decreased by 0.6 per cent to 19 673 cases. The figure represented an increase of about 56.3 per cent in comparison with that of January 2020 when Hong Kong had just started to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The average number of applications for unemployment cases in March to May 2021 was 773 per month, representing a reduction of 2.0 per cent from that in February to April, or a reduction of 70.8 per cent from that in March to May 2020.
   
     Ill-health cases rose by 0.3 per cent to 26 451 cases. Single parent cases increased by 0.1 per cent to 24 885 cases.
