The Police held an opening ceremony for its Operational Base at Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point (BCP) today (June 2).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Tang Ping-keung, noted that the new BCP was the first to adopt the design principle of "direct access to people and vehicles" which brought greater convenience to people. In order to meet the policing challenges arising from the new BCP, the Force established the Heung Yuen Wai Operational Base and the Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point Unit, which operates round-the-clock to maintain the order of the BCP and take charge of the operation of the Police Reporting Centre at the Passenger Terminal Building and the Enhanced Under Vehicle Surveillance System.

Mr Tang said that the BCP has been operating efficiently since the commissioning of its cargo clearance facilities in August 2020. He added that the Force is well-prepared for the commissioning of the passenger facilities. He hoped that the passenger facilities would soon enter service when the epidemic was over, fostering closer communication among residents in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
