HA announces passing away of two COVID-19 patients

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

      The Hospital Authority spokesperson today (February 17) announced that two patients confirmed with COVID-19 infection passed away at public hospitals today.
 
      A 57-year-old male patient with chronic illness (case number: 7021) was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) for treatment on December 7, 2020 due to fever and shortness of breath. He was subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. His condition deteriorated and he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit on December 20, 2020 and January 7 respectively. The patient's condition continued to deteriorate and he eventually succumbed at 12.05pm today.
 
     In addition, a 68-year-old male patient with chronic disease (case number: 9438) who tested preliminary positive for COVID-19 was admitted to the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital on January 14. He was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of Prince of Wales Hospital for isolation treatment on the same day. His antibody test result for COVID-19 was positive and he was released from isolation order by the Department of Health on February 5, after which he continued to be hospitalised at the ICU. His condition continued to deteriorate though and he eventually succumbed at 6.42pm today.

      The hospitals are saddened about the passing away of the patients and would offer the necessary assistance to their families.
 
      Including the above two patients, 191 COVID-19 confirmed patients have passed away in public hospitals so far.
