Hongkong Post's response to media enquiries
*******************************************
In response to media enquiries about the follow-up on the case of a postman working for the General Post Office Delivery Office (GPO/DO) testing positive for COVID-19, Hongkong Post gave a reply today (December 17) as follows:

After learning about the confirmed case of the postman on the night of December 13, Hongkong Post immediately arranged COVID-19 testing for around 200 staff members (including postmen and supporting staff) working at the GPO/DO pursuant to the advice of the Centre for Health Protection (CHP). The test results of all the staff of the GPO/DO were negative.

As advised by the CHP, staff with negative results can resume duty, therefore delivery services for the districts (including Admiralty, the Peak, the Mid-levels, Central, Sheung Wan, Sai Ying Poon and Kennedy Town) will gradually resume as normal starting from tomorrow (December 18). Regardless of the negative results for the six postmen who worked within 2 metres of the workbench of the postman concerned, they have been placed under home quarantine for 14 days as per the CHP's advice.

In this matter, Hongkong Post followed the guidelines of the CHP and arranged at once for a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the workplace and all public facilities concerned immediately after learning about the incident. Supervisors were also instructed that same night to notify all staff members of the GPO/DO and staff on the overnight shift working on other floors at the GPO of the case.

Staff members are also constantly reminded to take note of their personal hygiene and stay vigilant at all times. In case they feel unwell, they are advised to seek medical advice immediately.

Hongkong Post has always attached great importance to the occupational safety and health of its staff, and thus arranged COVID-19 testing for frontline staff in late August and early December. Following the testing conducted for staff working at the GPO, Hongkong Post will soon arrange another round of voluntary testing for frontline staff of other working locations. Such arrangements will also be made in the future, taking into account the latest development of the epidemic.
