A CAS member preliminarily tested positive for COVID-19
A Civil Aid Service (CAS) member who performed duty at the Penny's Bay Quarantine Centre was preliminarily tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). He felt unwell on December 11. Preliminary result released yesterday (December 12) showed that he tested positive for COVID-19. He was responsible for manning the enquiry hotline at the command centre and his work did not involve any contact with members of the public or persons under quarantine. He wore surgical masks while performing duties and properly maintained social distancing with people he had contacted. He last attended for duty on December 10.
The CAS is highly concerned about the case, maintains close communication with the Department of Health (DH) and has proactively provided information such as the recent duty record of the CAS member concerned to facilitate arrangements of his close contacts to be conveyed to quarantine centres to undergo quarantine.
While awaiting further assessment and recommendations from the DH, persons that might have come into close contact with the CAS member have been arranged to undergo tests for the virus. The CAS has notified the DH to arrange cleaning and disinfection of the premises where the member worked in and stayed.
The CAS has been concerned about the COVID-19 epidemic all along. Relevant hygienic measures for infectious diseases provided by the Centre for Health Protection have been strictly adopted. All members have their body temperatures checked before performing their duties, and they wear proper personal protective equipment.
The CAS will continue to step up the cleaning and disinfection measures for all work locations and remind all staff members to strictly comply with the relevant hygienic measures. Staff has also been reminded to pay attention to personal hygiene and reduce social contact to minimise the risk of infection. They should immediately report their cases and consult a doctor if they feel unwell.
The CAS will deploy manpower resources flexibly to ensure the provision of relevant services at the Penny's Bay Quarantine Centre remains unaffected.
