An Assistant Education Officer of EDB preliminarily tested positive for COVID-19

     A spokesman for the Education Bureau (EDB) said today (December 10) that an Assistant Education Officer had preliminarily tested positive for COVID-19 on December 9.
      
     The officer concerned works at the Kowloon Regional Education Office, 1/F, East Block, Education Bureau Kowloon Tong Education Services Centre, 19 Suffolk Road, Kowloon Tong. The floor concerned is not open to the public. The officer has no recent travel history and last performed duties on December 8. The officer was measured with normal body temperature before entering the office. She wore a face mask when performing duties in office and observed other disease prevention measures.
      
     In accordance with the advice of the Centre for Health Protection (CHP), the workplace of the officer concerned, including the common areas, will be fully cleaned and sterilised and the Kowloon Regional Education Office of the EDB was closed today. In case the relevant officer is confirmed positive for COVID-19 after further test, the Kowloon Regional Education Office of the EDB will be closed for 14 days until December 23, during which all staff will work from home. The EDB will also advise all staff to undergo test for COVID-19.
      
     In addition, the officer concerned conducted a visit to a tutorial school in the Sham Shui Po District on December 7. During the visit, the officer wore a face mask and maintained an appropriate social distance with others in contact. According to the CHP’s advice, that tutorial center needs to suspend its operation for thorough cleaning and sterilising. 
      
     During the pandemic, the EDB has been strictly implementing various disease prevention measures, including measuring the body temperature of people entering its buildings, and requesting staff to wear face masks when in contact with others and at public places. Cleaning and sterilising measures for the working environment have also been stepped up. The EDB has also reminded all staff to pay attention to personal hygiene and to stay vigilant all the time. They should seek medical advice immediately if they feel unwell.
      
     The EDB will continue to maintain close liaison with the CHP and co-operate with its quarantine work.
