The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for United Christian Hospital (UCH) made the following announcement today (December 2) on the confirmed COVID-19 infection of an occupational therapist.
      
     An occupational therapist of the United Christian Hospital has onset of mild sore throat since November 24 and sought medical treatment from private doctors twice. COVID-19 deep throat saliva test was arranged by a private doctor on November 29 and the test result was positive for COVID-19 last night (December 1). The occupational therapist is currently receiving isolation treatment in the hospital with stable condition.
      
     The occupational therapist concerned was on leave from November 26 to 30 and resumed duty yesterday, his main duty is providing outreach services by visiting patients' home to conduct rehabilitation exercises. The hospital's infection control team conducted contact tracing and confirmed that both the occupational therapist and his patients were equipped with appropriate personal protective equipment during training. The details of the patients have been passed to the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) for follow up. Three UCH colleagues who had meals together with the therapist are being classified as close contacts and need to be quarantined.

     The hospital has arranged thorough cleansing and disinfection for the relevant office, treatment rooms and pantry which the colleague visited. All environmental samples collected are tested negative. UCH will continue to closely monitor the health of our staff and patients and communicate with the CHP about the latest situation.
