********************************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson for Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) made the following announcement today (November 27) regarding a case tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19:

A 21-year-old male patient was admitted to an Orthopaedics and Traumatology (O&T) ward of TMH yesterday (November 26) afternoon. He was arranged to take the viral test for COVID-19 and the preliminary result available in the late evening was positive. The patient has been transferred to an isolation ward. He remains asymptomatic and in stable condition.

The patient underwent a surgery in October and required regular follow-up consultation. He attended the O&T specialist-out-patient clinic on November 24. In yesterday afternoon, the patient attended the Accident and Emergency Department (A&E) of TMH because of wound bleeding. He was arranged to be admitted to an O&T ward after initial assessment.

Upon learning the patient’s test result, the Infection Control Unit conducted investigation to trace the healthcare workers and patients who had been in contact with him. The contact tracing identified that five patients who stayed in the same cubicle with the patient concerned as close contacts and required quarantine for 14 days. They were arranged to take the viral test for COVID-19 and all results were negative. All staff members who have been in contact with the patient concerned were equipped with appropriate personal protective equipment, therefore no staff member is required to be put under quarantine nor medical surveillance.

TMH had arranged thorough cleansing and disinfection in the ward concerned, A&E and the specialist out-patient clinic. The hospital will fully cooperate with the Centre for Health Protection on follow up actions.
