Hong Kong Customs seized about 500 grams of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of about $0.83 million at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) on October 8. Two persons were subsequently arrested yesterday (October 15).

On October 8, Customs officers inspected an air parcel declared as game products that arrived at the airport from Germany. The suspected cocaine was found inside a puzzle box.

Follow-up investigation led to the arrest of a 20-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl yesterday in Wong Tai Sin.

The duo have been jointly charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (October 17).

Customs will continue to maintain close contact with Hongkong Post and the logistics industries to step up action against drug trafficking activities through postal parcels and express courier channels.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.

Members of the public may report any suspected drug trafficking activities to Customs' 24-hour hotline 2545 6182 or its dedicated crime-reporting email account (crimereport@customs.gov.hk).
