With the support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels (HKETO, Brussels) and Create Hong Kong, the Thessaloniki International Film Festival (TIFF) will present several films produced by noted Hong Kong filmmaker Fruit Chan to movie lovers in Thessaloniki, Greece's second-largest city, from October 11 to 14 (Thessaloniki time).

This is the sixth year running that HKETO, Brussels has partnered with the TIFF to share Hong Kong films with Greek movie lovers. As a tribute to Fruit Chan, the TIFF's Cinematheque Program will screen four of his works, namely "Little Cheung", "Dumplings", "The Midnight After" and "Made in Hong Kong".

Addressing the audience via video before the screening of "Made in Hong Kong" at the Pavlos Zannas Theatre at the Olympion Complex in Thessaloniki on October 11, the Deputy Representative of the HKETO, Brussels, Miss Fiona Chau, praised Chan's creative genius and remarkable achievements in bringing Hong Kong films to international attention. She also thanked the organiser for its efforts in showing Hong Kong films to Greek audiences amid the challenging circumstances this year.

Miss Chau said that with its Eastern heritage and Western influences, Hong Kong remains a place of open borders and open minds that allows talent and creativity to flourish. She added that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government strives to ensure that the right environment is in place in the city for creative industries to flourish. As always, freedom of speech and the free flow of information, ideas and talent are among Hong Kong's core values and are guaranteed by the Basic Law.

As a staunch supporter of the local film industry, the HKSAR Government is supporting the Hong Kong film industry to get through a difficult period this year. It has earmarked around 29 million Euros under the Film Development Fund to help increase the number of local film productions, nurture young directors and scriptwriting talents and enhance professional training to add value to the industry.
