Government to extend Food Truck Pilot Scheme for another year
*************************************************************

The Government announced today (October 9) that the Food Truck Pilot Scheme will be extended for another year up to February 2, 2022. The decision was made after evaluating the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on food truck operations and the development of the Scheme so far.

"Since the outbreak of the pandemic in early 2020, many operating venues have been closed for a long time for implementing social distancing measures. Food truck operations have been seriously affected. By extending the Scheme for another year, food trucks can continue to operate during the extended period," a spokesman for the Tourism Commission (TC) said.

The TC has sought the agreement in principle from most of the management of the existing operating venues to continue providing food truck pitches. Furthermore, the TC will continue to arrange for food trucks to operate at the designated mega events organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board.

The two-year Scheme was launched on February 3, 2017, and extended for two more years till February 2, 2021, with an objective to add fun and vibrancy to Hong Kong's tourist attractions. During the past 3.5 years of operation, the Government has rolled out a number of refinements and helping measures including introducing new operating venues, providing a more flexible rotation arrangement, allowing food trucks to participate in self-identified events and offering a one-off subsidy of $80,000 to operators under the Food Licence Holders Subsidy Scheme of the Anti-epidemic Fund.
