Appointments of Chairperson and members to Veterinary Surgeons Board of Hong Kong

The nine newly appointed members are Ms Fiona Chin Chun-yee, Mr Howard Chuk Hau-chung, Dr Jennifer Go Le-lin, Dr Anthony Kwok Wai-leung, Dr Hilary Lam Ho-yan, Mr John Lau Hon-kit, Professor Angela Ng Lai-ping, Professor Nikolaus Osterrieder and Dr Esther To Man-wai.
The Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan, welcomed the new members and those re-appointed to the VSB. She said she looked forward to their contribution to the work of the VSB in upholding the professional standards of veterinary surgeons in Hong Kong. In particular, Professor Chan thanked Professor Ching for accepting the re-appointment to lead the VSB and his invaluable contribution to the VSB over the years, especially in the transition to a newly constituted VSB and the smooth conduct of the first ordinary election of elected members.
Professor Chan also thanked the outgoing members, Mr Au Pak-ching, Dr Katriona Christine Ferguson Bradley, Dr Olivia Chan Sinn-kay, Mr Timothy Ng Sau-kin, Dr Florence Tang Mei-kuen and Dr Michelle Yeung Lee, for their dedicated service and valuable contribution to the VSB during their terms of appointment.
Enacted in 1997, the Veterinary Surgeons Registration Ordinance (Cap. 529) provides for the establishment of the VSB, which is responsible for the regulation of the practice of veterinary surgery, the registration of veterinary surgeons, and the disciplinary control of the professional activities of registered veterinary surgeons in Hong Kong.
The Ordinance has been amended by the Veterinary Surgeons Registration (Amendment) Ordinance 2015, passed by the Legislative Council on March 18, 2015. Among other proposals, the membership of the VSB would increase from 10 persons to 19. Six of the seats are to be filled by registered veterinary surgeons elected by members of the profession. In accordance with the Veterinary Surgeons Board (Election of Members) Regulation (Cap. 529B), the VSB has conducted the first ordinary election for the elected members. The election was concluded in September and successfully returned six members, namely Dr Vidya Bhardwaj, Dr Carmen Chui Lap-man, Dr Kenneth Lam Ka-ho, Dr Rebecca Sarah Victoria Parkes, Dr Patricia Shuen Yi-man and Dr Yiu Chun-ho. As with appointed members, these elected members shall hold office for a term of three years with effect from October 1, 2020.
