Transport Department staff member preliminarily tests positive for COVID-19
***************************************************************

The Transport Department (TD) today (September 11) learned that a staff member was notified by the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) on having preliminarily tested positive for COVID-19.

The clerical staff member concerned works at the To Kwa Wan Vehicle Examination Centre. She last performed duties on September 9 and was subsequently notified of the preliminary positive result early this morning by the CHP. Her body temperature was normal before commencing duty and she has been wearing masks and following relevant disease prevention measures at work. The CHP has contacted staff members working at the To Kwa Wan Vehicle Examination Centre and the TD on the work arrangements of the staff member concerned, and identified four clerical staff members working at the same office as close contacts and they are required to undergo quarantine for observation. The TD will actively co-operate with the CHP's quarantine work.

In consideration of public health and hygiene, and according to guidelines of the CHP, the TD immediately arranged COVID-19 testing for all staff members working at the To Kwa Wan Vehicle Examination Centre. Thorough cleaning and disinfection will be carried out this weekend. The To Kwa Wan Vehicle Examination Centre will continue to operate ‪on September 14 to provide scheduled vehicle examination services.

During the outbreak of COVID-19, the TD has been strictly implementing various disease prevention measures. Members of the public entering the TD's vehicle examination centres have to undergo on-the-spot body temperature checks arranged by the TD. Any member of the public whose body temperature is higher than 37.5 degrees Celsius or who refuses to undergo a body temperature check will be denied entry. The centres will also strictly request members of the public to clean their hands with alcohol-based sanitiser before entering the centres and wear masks at all times in the centres. To reduce the risk of the spread of virus, the centres will also strengthen the cleaning of public facilities and implement crowd control measures.

The TD will continue to maintain close liaison with the CHP and has also reminded staff to pay attention to personal hygiene and stay vigilant. If feeling unwell, staff are reminded to seek medical advice and inform the TD as soon as possible.
