HKMA alerts public on bogus messages

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority:
 
     The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) received an enquiry from the public about the HKMA demanding for charges on money transfer through instant messaging application LINE. The HKMA wishes to clarify that it does not impose charges of any kind on money transfer. Members of the public should also note that the HKMA staff will not contact the public with regard to personal or business matters.

     Members of the public who suspect that they have become victims of any fraudulent acts should contact the Police or the Commercial Crime Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force at 2860 5012 for follow-up actions and investigation by the Police.
